The R/C Project

CAD design work begins: August, 1998

Since I first started playing with AutoCAD at work, I've wanted to do a full-blown scale design project using CAD.  I started on a design for a Blohm und Voss Bv 155 a few years ago, but shelved it in favor of doing the Do 335.  Now that I have the twin bug :-) I decided to embark on this project.  Some of the guys at the field give me strange looks when I tell them about this project.  They think I need my head examined!  Know what, they're probably right!

Here's a screen snap of the TurboCAD workspace, with sheet #1 of the He 219 plans loaded.  I'm making the plans 36 x 84 inches.  Here is a close-up of the nose area.   I'm planning to use Robart 150 series retracts.  The 158 nosegear unit is shown in this view.  The wing plan isn't too far along yet, I'm just working out the spar locations and the outer wing panel joints.  The outer wing panels will be removable.

Here is sheet #3.  This will eventually have all of the nacelle drawings, and the tail.  As you can see I'm not too far along here yet, buy I have made a nice drawing of the Saito .90s which will power this beast.  Here is a close-up of the nacelle area.  Also shown here are the 90 degree 151 main retracts.
